MCU Fans Urge Marvel To Give Returning Iron Man A Rest

Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner/Hulk in the MCU, may have just teased the inevitable return of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, but MCU fans are not on board with it.

In a recent appearance at the Emerald City Comic-Con (via The Direct), Ruffalo seemingly teased the return of one of his fellow OG Avengers Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in the MCU: “Sad, but there is a time machine. And there are alternate universes and realities, so anything could happen.”

The actor kept the interview from prying further by saying he wasn’t going to confirm nor deny on their return. However, even Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had previously laid out his plans for the upcoming Marvel Phases, with the Avengers films The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars ideally turning out to be exactly how Avengers: Endgame did, so this “rumor” is slowly turning into reality.

In spite of Marvel thinking that MCU fans would seek for RDJ to return to his Tony Stark role, the fandom has recently expressed their dissatisfaction on the news, and in fact, brought to light on why they refuse to have Downey Jr. return in the MCU. Check out some of the fan reactions below:

To pretty much sum up the fandom’s concern, bringing back Stark would only “cheapen their sacrifice” and “the whole experience”, which I’m positive the majority feels in regards to this news.

The return of the OG Avengers such as Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow had been previously rumored, and given that the multiverse is filled with alternate realities and that The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars are utilizing this as part of the storyline, it’s entirely possible to at least get a glimpse of each character.

But as the MCU fans stated, bringing back Iron Man to life would do little to nostalgia and bring doom to Marvel, especially seeing as the new phases should be focusing more on developing solid characters and heroes we should look forward to, instead of bringing up the past originals who have already done their time.
