The long wait is over as Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion is finally here and despite the minimal hype it's been generating prior to its premiere, the Samuel L. Jackson-led series' debut episode pretty much made up for it being one of the most talked-about premieres in recent MCU memory.

Why are fans buzzing about it, you ask? It's because Secret Invasion's premiere episode killed off one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's longest-serving characters.

Episode 1, titled "Resurrection" was a massive thrill ride for MCU fans that ended in jaw-dropping fashion and it's causing quite the frenzy all over the internet.

Centered on Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Talos' attempt to foil the diabolical plans of the "Skrull Council" led by Gravik, the latter part of the adrenaline-pumping episode saw the shocking death of Cobie Smulders' beloved character at the hands of a Skrull who copied Fury's appearance.

Following the episode, fans stormed Twitter to air their displeasure over Hill's death and for doing the character dirty. Some of them are even calling out Kevin Feige who most likely approved of the surprising creative decision. Check out some of the reactions below:

Smulders is one of the longest-tenured actors in the billion-dollar franchise, starting her MCU career in 2012's Avengers and appearing in multiple Marvel projects since.

Her death may come as a huge shocker to most fans but considering her contemporaries like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson have all exited the franchise, maybe it was time for her to finally do the same.

It's quite unfortunate though that Marvel Studios wasn't able to use the character to her full potential.

The first episode of Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion is now streaming on Disney+.
