Matthew Vaughn Talks About His Original Plans for a Superman Trilogy

After Zack Snyder was booted out of the DCEU, there were rumors going around that Kingsman helmer Matthew Vaughn was being considered to direct the sequel. As it turns out, he was planning an entire trilogy with Mark Millar before Man of Steel, and he talks a bit about his original plans.

Talking to Polygon, Vaughn explained that the first movie in the trilogy would actually take place and Krypton and would have had Kal-El a bit grown when he comes to Earth. The article reads:

Vaughn revealed that the first film in the proposed trilogy was meant to take place almost entirely on Krypton, and focus on Jor-El and the impending explosion of Krypton. Though the alien planet would still face destruction, Vaughn and Millar's take would have the event take place much later in the timeline, allowing Superman to grow up on his home planet and gradually become familiar with Earth, maturing into an adult before having to reckon with his loyalty to both planets.

Of course, WB decided to go with Snyder, but after Snyder left, they were once again courting Vaughn for Man of Steel 2. Apparently Vaughn would have used some of his concepts from his original trilogy, but for now, the talks have died down, and Vaughn has to make more Kingsman movies.

When it comes to working on Superman again though, Vaughn is keeping an open mind. He said that if he was offered to direct again, "It'd be hard to say no."

For now, there are no currently announced plans to bring back Superman to the DCEU, but hopefully, they do something soon after the release of the next Batman in 2021.
