Matt Reeves Confirms Colin Farrell is The Penguin in The Batman

It looks like Matt Reeves' The Batman is going to have quite the cast since various set photos have seemingly confirmed that Colin Farrell will be in the movie, with his umbrella hinting that he might be The Penguin, one of Batman's most popular villains. On Twitter, Reeves has basically confirmed the news by posting a GIF of Farrell and asking "Wait, is that you Oz?"

Oz is a possible nickname for Oswald Cobblepot, who is, of course, Gotham City's infamous Penguin.

Some fans might find it weird that Reeves is casting a slim and attractive man as The Penguin but there have been thinner interpretations of the character. Batman: The Telltale Series had a fairly intriguing take on the villain, one that was thin and hated the Waynes. He also had a unique mask that bore the resemblance of a bird's skull, which added to his "Penguin" moniker.

Whatever the case for this casting, fans are intrigued about The Batman having three villains, with The Riddler, Catwoman, and now The Penguin confirmed for this huge DC movie. Some movies have suffered for having too many villains but we're sure a director like Reeves can handle this and weave it into an interesting storyline.

Farrell joins Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Jeffrey Wright (Commissioner Gordon), Zoe Kravitz (Selina Kyle/Catwoman), Paul Dano (Edward Nigma/The Riddler), John Turturro (Carmine Falcone) and Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth).

The Batman is currently scheduled for a June 25, 2021 release.
