As of this writing, Netflix has not yet announced whether or not it plans to renew Mask Girl for a succeeding season.

Even though Mask Girl had a closed-off end, we never know if Netflix will decide to expand the story in the future.

Of course, this is not uncommon in K-dramas. Netflix has been in the practice of analyzing a show's viewership before making any plans.

The streaming service usually gauges the number of viewers who watch the first episode and those who watch the whole thing. They also check out how the show was received by its critics.

So, even though the ending of Mask Girl was pretty much self-explanatory, it could still be open for interpretation.

Mask Girl Season 2: Our Prediction

But if you ask us whether or not there could be a second season of the show, our answer would be no.

To note, the main characters of the show (the protagonist and antagonist) died at the end. This means there is no more room for the story to expand on.

After Kim Mo-mi (played by Ko Hyun-jung) took a bullet for her daughter, Mi-mo (played by Shin Ye-seo), police shot Kim Kyung-ja (played by Yeom Hye-ran) in the head.

And although we don't actually see Mo-mi's lifeless body in the aftermath, we do see her coughing up some thick blood in the show's final moments.

Not to mention, Mi-mo's narration says that she was taken in by the family of Kim Ye-chun (played by Kim Min-seo). This is because both of her guardians died at the end of the show: Mo-mi and her grandmother, Sim Young-hee (played by Moon Sook).

It's unlikely that Mo-mi survived that gunshot wound in the end.

What Could Mask Girl Season 2's Story Be About?

But in the event that Netflix decides to expand the story of Mask Girl, the second season of the show may follow Mi-mo.

After learning the truth about her mother, it's up to her to show the world that Mo-mi isn't the plastic surgery-crazy serial killer that the world made her out to be.

If she continues feeling mistreated by everyone judging her and her mother, she might just wear her mother's mask again and become the new Mask Girl. Only this time, her actions may be fueled by anger and hate.

Her story could also continue to include Ye-Chun, who have feelings for each other.

And just in case Mo-mi is still alive and serving time in prison, it's possible that she could have broken her silence and explained her side of things.

This way, the whole world will know that she was never a serial killer-- just someone who protected herself from awful men.

But who knows? We're still waiting for Netflix to announce the show's future. All we can say at this point is to not keep your hopes up.
