On Thursday, December 28, 2023, Marvin Hurst shocked KENS 5 viewers when he made an announcement. The anchor shared a lengthy Facebook post where he explained the reason why he decided to leave KENS 5. He also thanked a handful of people in the said post.
Among the people he thanked is his team of medical professionals at the S.T.A.R.T. Center. The anchor was able to get through stage four cancer twice.
Hurst revealed that he informed his bosses of his decision to leave the program around seven or eight months ago. Hurst also shared that this is his 19th year at KENS5, which is his shortest since he will be leaving on December 31st.
On Instagram, Hurst shared a Story that his last day on the program is on December 29th.
Why is Marvin Hurst Leaving KENS 5?
So why is Marvin Hurst leaving KENS 5? Hurst revealed in the post that ever since he got married in August 2022, they have not lived together most of the time. Even though he and Felicia continued to see and spend time together, they were in different cities for almost a year.
With this, Hurst has decided to move to Dallas to be with his wife. In his words:
"My wife and I have awaited the Lord's promised process for nearly a year in different cities. Yes, we saw each other and spent time together. Now, it's time for one roof, and we can finally stop answering all those questions about "Is she here? Is he here? How does that work? Blah.Blah. Blah." We aren't prying; sometimes, the depth of the "social" inquisitions puzzled us. We ARE value detectives---sniffing out intention all the time. The Hursts are joyfully together by God's amazing hand. That's how it works. Trusting and understanding the process and purpose--knowing the essential cause is more significant than space, time, or relationship status on social media."
When Did Marvin Hurst Join KENS 5?
Hurst first became part of KENS 5's Eyewitness News This Morning as a reporter in December 2004. Ever since then, Hurst has received several nominations and awards from the Lone Star Emmys and the Texas Associated Press.
He became an anchor for the 4:30 am newscast in May 2022. He says goodbye to his 19-year career at KENS 5 but leaves the door open for Dallas.
