Marvel's Thunderbolts Taps Beef Creator to Take Over Writing Duty

One of the upcoming MCU films that are currently in the works is Thunderbolts, which will feature a team-up of our favorite characters from past films and TV shows. So far, the main plot remains under wraps as the project is currently in pre-production ahead of its planned filming date this summer.

However, it looks like the project has undergone some major behind-the-scenes changes as Variety reported that Lee Sung Jin, the creator of the upcoming Netflix series Beef, has taken over the writing duty for Thunderbolts. Black Widow writer Eric Pearson penned the previous draft of the script.

"I’m rewriting it. It’s the whole squad again. Jake asked me if I would come on board. I probably should have taken a break, but there’s a lot of themes and exciting things about the movie that I couldn’t help but sign on," the writer said.

"It’s truly an honor to be part of a Marvel thing, but it is very different. One, it’s not my project, it’s Jake [Schreier]’s. It’s such a large scope and scale that the type of writing is very different. At the same time, the process feels the same, I’m still talking to Jake every day.

He continued, "I think once you find the squad of people you love and trust and are so talented, you do everything you can to keep working with them."

Lee will be reuniting with director Jake Schreier, who helmed episodes of Beef, and Oscar-nominated actor Steven Yeun, who stars in the series and recently joined the film's ensemble.

The cast also includes Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Olga Kurylenko, and Ayo Edebiri. Production will reportedly begin this June in Atlanta.

Considering that there is a lot of buzz surrounding the upcoming Netflix series, Lee's involvement in the film is certainly an exciting development for the project and it is interesting to see what kind of changes did he make to the script as they're getting closer to its production.
