Marvel Would Be Better Off Re-Writing J. Jonah Jameson

Marvel fans might have been delighted seeing J.K. Simmons playing J.Jonah Jameson in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, however, it seems like Simmons' return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be problematic for Marvel.

While there have been multiple reports saying that Simmons could appear in future Spider-Man movies in the MCU, ComicBook.com suggests that having J. Jonah Jameson appear in the upcoming Marvel movies might be a problem for Marvel Studios because of the divisive influence of the person which the character is based on – Alex Jones.

"Something that had been floating through this entire movie was the idea of ‘fake news' and how can you believe everything you see?" Far From Home co-writer Chris McKenna said in an interview with The New York Times, "We had been toying with the idea that Mysterio would turn Spider-Man into a villain, just like he did in the comic books, and it felt like that then tied into this J. Jonah 2.0 as the Alex Jones of the MCU."

Jones has often been connected to conservative values and figures, though on several occasions he has personally described himself to have paleoconservative, conservative, and libertarian ideals.

Marvel fans may remember that New York magazine once labeled Jones as "America's leading conspiracy theorist" in 2013.

While Marvel has never been one to shy away from featuring real-world politics in comics or in film, having Jones as the basis for JJJ's character seems rather troubling for Marvel. Why have a character based on a man who creates conspiracy theories and causes so much divide?

Perhaps it would be better for Marvel to rewrite the character instead.
