Marvel Studios Will Still Make A Sequel To Doctor Strange

The sequel to Doctor Strange might not yet be in Marvel's list of upcoming projects, but that doesn't mean that Doctor Strange 2 isn't happening.

Speaking in an interview with Cinema Blend about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked about what it was like balancing Marvel's slate of films with the many franchises it has in line.

According to the studio executive, though it all comes down to scheduling, Marvel can't help but have long gaps between sequels. One of those is Doctor Strange 2.

"Sometimes it's where do those characters pop up? [Doctor] Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange one, which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he's a very big part of [Avengers:] Infinity War. So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things."

It doesn't come as a surprise that Marvel's still holding on to a sequel to Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch's version of the Sorcerer Supreme was well-received when he made his debut in the MCU back in 2016. He also had a fun but brief cameo in Thor: Ragnarok and then a prominent role in Avengers: Infinity War.

Marvel wouldn't want to let go of such a likable character, especially since the studio's building the Marvel Cosmic Universe with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
