Marvel Studios Says Spider-Man/ Venom Crossover Is Likely To Happen

Thanks to a deal with Sony, Marvel's been able to develop two new Spider-Man movies featuring Tom Holland as everyone's favorite webslinger. Peter Parker was first introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War when Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) decides to recruit the highschooler to fight alongside him in his battle against Captain America (Chris Evans).

Not long after his appearance in Civil War does Holland get his own standalone movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, a 2017 comic book movie that was nothing short of a commercial and critical success. Not only did Homecoming win the hearts of fans and critics, the film also raked in 880.2 million USD in the global box office during its theatrical release.

Now, Marvel is getting ready to release the film's sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, a film featuring Spidey's classic villain, Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Fans have been wondering whether Marvel might include Venom in the Spider-Man film trilogy anytime soon – the antihero made a wild splash during last year's Venom.

Speaking in an interview with Cinema Blend, Marvel Studios President says that Venom could crossover into the MCU, however the decision ultimately ends up with Sony.

"I think probably it's up to Sony," Feige revealed. "Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I don't know what their plans are for another Venom or if they're doing that. But it seems likely at some point."

That, or Sony could bring Spider-Man into the next Venom movie for a short cameo, who knows. We'll just have to wait and see.

Spider-Man: Far From Home comes swinging into cinemas July 2, 2019.
