Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige On How Black Widow Sets Up The MCU’s Future

Marvel Studios may have yet to make any sort of announcement regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, the studio's already discussed revealed some of its upcoming films, including the upcoming prequel movie, Black Widow.

A planned period piece, Black Widow is Scarlett Johansson's first standalone film as Natasha Romanoff. Speaking in an interview with i09 to help promote Marvel's last film of the year, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed how Black Widow would help usher in the future of the MCU.

According to Feige, there's a "method to madness," saying that the right story for Black Widow could open up a whole world of new information for the franchise.

"There's a method to the madness," Feige said. "There's always a method and doing things in an unexpected way is something we find fun. There are ways to do prequels that are less informative or answer questions you didn't necessarily have, and then there are ways to do prequels where you learn all sorts of things you never knew before."

Of course, Feige doesn't give any particular detail about the upcoming Black Widow movie. We're hoping that Marvel announces the film and talks more about it soon. The studio could very well do it in July during this year's San Diego Comic-Con International. Marvel is setting up to return to SDCC in a very big way this year. The studio is gearing up to present at Hall H of the convention and that can only mean one thing – big news from Marvel.

Marvel's latest release, Avengers: Endgame, is currently screening in cinemas.
