Marvel Studios Possibly Won Back Rights to The Defenders Early for Future Reboot

There is little doubt that the cancellation of the Marvel Netflix shows was one of the most disappointing things that happened in 2018. However, it looks like The Defenders could soon be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A new report suggests that Marvel Studios may have won back the rights to Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist much earlier than expected.

Back in 2018, Disney and Marvel decided to cancel Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil just within months of each other. It was also confirmed that Jessica Jones Season 3 and The Punisher Season 2 would be the last for the other two Netflix shows. Although the cancellations immediately had fans wondering whether The Defenders would show up in the MCU, it was also confirmed that Marvel Studios will not be able to use the characters for at least another two years. However, there is a possibility that there are already big plans for the heroes.

The report from MCU Cosmic suggests that Marvel CCO Kevin Feige and his crew are "already in various stages of development on projects that utilize characters from the Netflix Defenders series." It doesn't specify which characters will be brought into the MCU right away but the report points out that Daredevil and The Punisher could go first since they are the most popular ones of the bunch.

For now, it's still unclear what Marvel is planning for The Defenders but it's welcome news for fans who have been rooting for the heroes to eventually cross over into the MCU. In the meantime, it's important to point out that Marvel has not yet confirmed the update so it's best to take it with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, we are crossing our fingers in hopes that we'll get an official word on this soon.
