Marvel Studios and Sony End Their Spider-Man Deal

You'd think that Spider-Man: Far From Home making a ton of money for Sony, grossing a billion dollars and becoming the company's highest-grossing film, would be enough for the company to continue their partnership with Disney and Marvel Studios. Well, that doesn't appear to be the case as Deadline has reported that the deal is over, with Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios no longer involved in making any future Spider-Man movies.

Apparently, Disney wanted to have a 50/50 co-financing agreement after the success of Far From Home. This also could have led to Marvel Studios getting more involved with the other Spider-Man characters, like Venom and Morbius. However, Sony refused the deal and wanted to maintain the current one where Disney would receive 5% of the first dollar gross. Disney refused, unsurprisingly.

The future of Spider-Man movies seems to be unclear, though the report states that two more films are slated, with Jon Watts and Tom Holland supposedly still involved. However, without Kevin Feige in the producer's chair, fans aren't feeling too good about the news.

Why Sony wouldn't want Feige, a man who helped make a billion-dollar franchise, to continue working on their Spider-Man films is insane. Money is definitely a big factor but you'd think that Sony would want more of Marvel's help, given Far From Home's success. Honestly, this is a really bad situation and we can't imagine how Feige is feeling since the self-professed superhero lover is a big Spider-Man fan.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is getting an extended cut and re-release in theaters later this month. Enjoy the film's quality while you can.
