Marvel Strips Strongest Avenger Title From Captain Marvel

Marvel might be having second thoughts about turning Captain Marvel into the new face of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because it looks like Marvel Studios has decided to name another superhero as the strongest member of the Avengers.

Speaking with filmmakers at a question and answer segment at the New York Film Academy (via Bounding Into Comics), Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked who exactly was the strongest Marvel hero.

Feige's answer? Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).

"Well, I think it's interesting if you look at Endgame, Wanda Maximoff was going to kill Thanos," the Marvel producer told the crowd at the New York Film Academy. "If he hadn't desperately – that was as scared as I've seen Thanos. And if he hadn't said, ‘Decimate my entire team to get her off of me,' I think she would have done it."

This response surprised fans because Marvel had previously described Captain Marvel as the strongest hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Why had the title been taken away from Brie Larson's Carol Danvers?

There are a number of possible answers to this question. Marvel may be describing Scarlett Witch as the strongest Avenger because of the upcoming WandaVision series. The studio may be building the character up because of the studio's plans to incorporate the X-Men into the MCU.

However, it's also likely that Marvel may be planning on taking the spotlight away from Captain Marvel. The character might have spearheaded the very first female-led Marvel movie, however, Captain Marvel became a pretty controversial entry when it premiered.

Let's wait and see what Marvel's going to do with Captain Marvel and Scarlett Witch as it enters Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
