People are still reeling days after the result of Johnny Depp's multi-million defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard was released and now that the dust has finally settled, I think it would be safe to say that the Aquaman actress' career is in jeopardy after she lost the highly-publicized case.

Amber is still scheduled to appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and with the recent revelation that her role in the sequel has been reduced, it looks like Mera's time in the DC Extended Universe is truly numbered.

Now, Warner Bros. and DC Films have yet to confirm whether or not they plan on keeping the 36-year-old star on board but considering the backlash surrounding her, the general belief within the DCEU fandom is that Mera will be written off in Aquaman 2.

Of course, there's also a good chance that the studio will just opt to find a replacement for Amber which I believe is the best thing to do. Over the last couple of months, we've seen fans come up with some pretty good casting suggestions — from Emilia Clarke to Blake Lively but recently, a hilarious "petition" has been gaining traction on social media and it's calling for a Marvel icon to get cast as the new Queen of Atlantis.

There's an ongoing gag on Twitter that sees a made-up petition featuring Spider-Man star Bruce Campbell being petitioned as the next Mera. The hysterical campaign immediately caught the attention of the actor, who made his grand Marvel return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and it turns out, he's down to do it.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Campbell jokingly captioned: "Send me a script."

To be fair, I think Amber has done a tremendous job as Mera in the DCEU but WB would be foolish to keep her in the franchise, especially after she lost the defamation case. Also, the studio definitely owes Depp an apology after he was asked to step down from the Fantastic Beasts film series.

Meanwhile, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's theatrical release has been rescheduled to March 17, 2023.
