Marvel Reportedly Hires The Matrix Director Of Photography For Shang-Chi

Now that Marvel's done releasing Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, the studio's begun working on its upcoming Phase 4 prequel films like Black Widow and Shang-Chi.

While Marvel's been preparing to make its Phase 4 announcements at this year's San Diego Comic-Con International, news about the upcoming prequel projects have been trickling online.

According to the newest report by Discussing Film, production on Shang-Chi is coming along quite nicely. Marvel just recently hired The Matrix's director of photography, Bill Pope, as one of the the project's new cinematographers – an addition to the film's crew that comes a few short days after Marvel decided to bring in Aquaman's costume designer, Kym Barrett, for the same role on the project.

Right now, very little is known about Shang-Chi, though we're definitely hoping that Marvel shed some light on the film during its panel at SDCC.

Shang-Chi will be Marvel's first comic book movie to feature an Asian lead and while the movie does have its risk, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is eager to see the story come to life on the big screen.

"I think every movie that we do is a risk. We only want to do movies that people seem to think are risks. Doing the story of an Asian-American hero of Chinese heritage is something that is very intriguing to us. It will be really different and special," Feige said in a previous interview.

We can't wait to learn more about what Shang-Chi has to offer the MCU.

Marvel's latest release, Spider-Man: Far From Home, is currently screening in cinemas.
