Marvel Netflix Star Rosario Dawson’s New Series Canceled Ahead of Star Wars: The Mandalorian Appearance

It looks like another series of Marvel Netflix star Rosario Dawson has been axed.

The USA Network series Briarpatch has been axed after one season on the streaming network despite the generally warm reception that the thriller has received from critics and from viewers.

Briarpatch was a show which featured Dawson in the leading role as an investigator forced to return to her pastoral town to learn the truth about the murder of her police detective sister. Word about the series cancellation came through Twitter through Briarpatch showrunner Andy Greenwald. The producer confirmed that he had actually been building up on a second season for the series before it had been canceled by the USA Network.

"Just wanted to let you know some disappointing news before you hear it from anyone else: Briarpatch isn't returning for another season at USA," he wrote in his post.

According to Greenwald, he had known about the cancellation for months, though, of course, the announcement still felt like a major disappointment to him and his team. The showrunner had "an amazing story planned for S2 and I was lucky enough to work with the most amazing writers and crew, all of whom were itching to get back to work. I think we were going to do something special."

This is the most recent series of Dawson that's been canceled. The actress other shows, Marvel Netflix series like Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, had all been canceled by the streaming site because of Disney's decision to create its own streaming site.

Though Lucasfilm has yet to confirm reports, word on the street has it that Dawson is going to make an appearance in Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 as Star Wars fan-favorite character, Ahsoka Tano.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is available for streaming on Disney+.
