Marvel Studios has been trying its best to diversify their roster of directors, and we've had great entries from the likes of Taika Waititi and Ryan Coogler. What's interesting is, Marvel has actually had talks with Master of None co-creator Alan Yang.
Talking to CineXpress about his new movie Tigertail, Yang was asked about any genres that he would like to work on in the future, to which he reveals, "… I'm really omnivorous, so you'll see. I've done comedy, I've done drama… it sounds funny but I had a meeting with Marvel about directing a movie for them so maybe we'll do that down the road; we'll do a Star Wars, we'll do a Marvel… put it out there."
Besides Master of None, Yang has also worked in comedies like The Good Place and Parks and Recreation. He'd also won an Emmy (plus several nominations) for his work on Parks and Master of None.
We don't know which film Yang was being courted for, but I imagine that Marvel wanted him to helm Shang-Chi at some point, seeing as he was an Asian director. Then again, if Yang was to direct something, I'd prefer he work on a property that he was more passionate about. Maybe there's room for him to helm a movie somewhere in Phase 5.
