Aside from the fact that Marvel Studios' Eternals will introduce fans to a new breed of cosmic superheroes, the highly-anticipated film will also mark the debut of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's newest power couple — Ikaris and Sersi. The characters, played by Richard Madden and Gemma Chan were heavily featured in the official trailer of the upcoming project and if it wasn't obvious enough, the two are romantically linked with each other.
It comes as a major shocker considering in the comics, Ikaris and Sersi were actually originally cousins. Obviously, the writers of the film and director Chloe Zhao went out of their way to tweak the origin of the characters, something that is already common practice within the franchise in an effort to keep things fresh and unpredictable.
After seeing the mesmerizing trailer, fans couldn't help but gush over Ikaris and Sersi's apparent romance, and right off the bat, they noticed the strong chemistry and connection between Madden and Chan. If we're being honest, it's hard to ignore. Check out some of the reactions here:
Oddly enough, Sersi's original love interest in the comics Black Knight will also be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Eternals. Games of Thrones star Kit Harrington will portray the character and it instantly begs the question: is the film going to acknowledge the relationship between him and Sersi? What role will Black Knight play in Ikaris and Sersi's romance? I don't know about you guys but it's looking quite evident that we'll end up getting ourselves an MCU love triangle down the line. How it affects the film's narrative and the course of the franchise moving forward remains to be seen so we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
Marvel Studios' Eternals will hit cinemas in November.
