Marvel Celebrates Captain America’s 100th Birthday

It looks like Marvel fans have a lot to celebrate today. Not only is today Independence Day, it's also the birthday of Marvel's patriotic Star-Spangled Avenger, Steve Rogers.

First appearing in Captain America Comics #1 back in the 1940's, Captain America is one of Marvel's oldest and most popular hero and now it looks like everyone's favorite boy scout is turning 100 today. Marvel's UK and Ireland Twitter account just recently decided to put up a tribute post celebrating Cap's 100th birthday, honoring one of the franchise's best-loved heroes.

Captain America's 100th Birthday comes as a pleasant surprise to many. Not only is Steve a century old, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also celebrating a decade this year, kicking off the culmination of Phase 3 with Avengers: Infinity War.

Those who've seen the film know that Cap plays a significant role in the first installment in Marvel's two-part Avengers movie. However, with actor Chris Evan's contract coming to an end, many expect Steve Rogers to take on a larger role in Avengers 4, many expecting the super soldier to give his life up in the continued battle against Thanos. Of course, things could turn the other way, but the Russo Brothers have been hinting at the price it's going to take to revive the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy that fell victim to Thanos in Infinity War – and what better price than the First Avenger?

Avengers 4 premieres May 3, 2019. Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theatres July 6.
