Marvel Asked Adam McKay To Direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

There was a lot of shock when Disney announced that it was parting ways with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. The filmmaker who was assigned to building Marvel's Cosmic Universe was fired after an alt-right supporter decided to start a smear campaign by digging up inappropriate and offensive tweets Gunn made fourteen years in the past. Despite having apologized for the tweets long ago, Gunn was still let go, leaving the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 up in the air.

While Disney has yet to name Gunn's replacement, it turns out that the Mickey Mouse House actually considered Vice and Step Brothers director Adam McKay for the role.

McKay recently spoke with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and during his interview with the publication, the filmmaker revealed that he had actually been approached by Marvel to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as well as the Inhumans comic book movie. The Inhumans movie was at first set to be released by Marvel, and at that time rumor had it that Mckay would be in charge of directing the film. However, the project never came to fruition under Marvel Studios because of ABC.

"We've talked a little bit, yeah," McKay said about the directorial position that had come his way. "We were kicking around the idea of the Inhumans at one point. We're always kind of talking. I think Feige is just the greatest and what they're doing is amazing."

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 isn't the first time McKay was approached by Marvel. He had also been offered to helm Ant-Man however, at the time the director turned it down and instead worked on the script together with the film's star, Paul Rudd.

Unfortunately, this time, it seems like things still didn't work out for McKay and now Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is still left out in the open.

Who do you think would be a good fit as the film's director? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
