Marvel And Disney Are Working On A “New Franchise Beyond Avengers”

Now that Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming to a close, Marvel has begun thinking of developing another franchise that could move beyond the Avengers.

Sure there might be little information about Marvel's plans after the sequels to Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger just decided to open up about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a recent earnings call for the Mickey Mouse House.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, aside from revealing how Disney and Marvel's been working on planning out the studio's film for the next ten years, Iger also teased a new franchise outside of the Avengers.

"We meet on a regular basis with our Marvel team, and we've plotted out Marvel movies that will take us well into the next decade," said Iger. "I'm guessing we will try our hand at what I'll call a new franchise beyond Avengers, but that doesn't necessarily mean you won't see more Avengers down the road. We just haven't made any announcements about that."

Disney has certainly been doing well with Marvel. The studio's latest release, Avengers: Infinity War, has been nothing but a box office success. Reaching more than $1 billion dollars at the box office after two weeks in cinemas, the first installment in Marvel's two-part Avengers movie is expected to reach around $1.8 billion to $2 billion at the end of its theatrical run.

Now, with fans expecting Avengers 4 to bring the franchise that began with Iron Man to an end, Disney's making sure that Marvel has another franchise to replace the Avengers. Could it be part of James Gunn's cosmic universe? Or it could be something entirely else?

Let's wait and see.
