Margot Robbie Reveals Why Birds of Prey Movie Has a Ridiculous Title

Fans were both surprised and somewhat amused when it was revealed that the Birds of Prey film would actually be called Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). While it's not a fun title to say (or type for that matter) it definitely captures the essence of Harley's spontaneous character and that should be enough to make fans of the character happy.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, actress Margot Robbie confirmed that this is the official title for the movie and that it signifies a more jovial tone compared to something like Suicide Squad. Robbie felt that just sticking with Birds of Prey would have made it seem too serious so adding a silly subtitle makes fans know that it's a lighter movie that's focused on one Harley Quinn.

"Yeah, that's the title. It's not going to be … It's not a very serious movie. Birds of Prey makes it sound very serious, and then that [subtitle is] Harley kind of going ‘Hey, here I am.' I love a long title. I said that when we were trying to come up with the title, 'Did you ever see The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared?' ...It's a long title, but I love it."

Admittedly, while the Birds of Prey comic book does have its fair share of jokes, it can be considered "serious," at least when compared to the slapstick we usually see in the new Harley Quinn comic. Having this subtitle does give the movie a unique identity when compared to most superhero movies and will probably be a wise decision in the end, despite how much time it takes to say (or type).

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will debut on February 7, 2020.
