Aside from playing Barbie in last year's billion-dollar hit movie, Margot Robbie is also known for playing Harley Quinn in the DCEU. Despite the divisive reception of the now-defunct franchise, her casting was considered to be one of the highlights.

So far, her future in the upcoming DCU reboot under DC Studios remains unknown as co-chairman James Gunn has not confirmed any plans to continue her tenure in the role.

A lot of fans are definitely hopeful that the Barbie star will continue playing Harley Quinn in the DCU, since there's still more exploration that they can do with her version of the character.

Lady Gaga is also set to play the character in the upcoming sequel Joker: Folie à Deux, which is set in a different universe and part of the DC Elseworlds.

In an interview with Variety, Margot Robbie was asked about her future as Harley Quinn now that the DC franchise is being rebooted and with Lady Gaga playing the character in Joker: Folie à Deux.

The Barbie star responded by saying that she's always open to seeing another actress play the character.

"I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters. That was always the dream for her," she said.

"Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, 'What are they going to do with her?' The options are endless."

Based on her comments, it sounded like Robbie wouldn't have a problem if ever Gunn decides to recast the role with a different actress as she embraces the idea of seeing another person play a character that she has become iconic for.

Most fans would love to see Robbie play the character again in the DCU, especially since her The Suicide Squad co-stars John Cena (Peacemaker) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) are set to reprise their roles in the new franchise.

It is interesting to see what kind of direction Gunn and Peter Safran have for Harley Quinn in the DCU and whether they'll recruit Robbie back to play her again in another universe.
