MAPPA isn’t even done with Jujutsu Kaisen yet, but the studio’s next series is already lined up. Following its reveal earlier this year, the new MAPPA original anime, BUCCHIGIRI?!, now has an official release date.
The show’s January 2024 premiere was revealed recently alongside news on a new visual and trailer. Also revealed is the show’s opening theme.
This season has seen MAPPA become the center of attention, for better or worse. Aside from getting lots of praise for its work on Jujutsu Kaisen, the studio has faced criticisms for its intense production schedule.
MAPPA Is Not Slowing Down as Its Next Project Is Already Coming Soon
MAPPA is one of the most popular anime studios today thanks in large part to creating lots of hit shows. These include Chainsaw Man as well as Attack on Titan: The Final Season which have captured the anime world’s attention.
The studio also has an infamous reputation among anime fans as there have been numerous reports about MAPPA’s intense schedule. Looking at its 2023 lineup, it’s clear that MAPPA staff is working nonstop.
Even MAPPA president Manabu Otsuka acknowledged this in an interview, stating that it is part of their strategy to become one of Japan’s top studios on the level of ufotable and Kyoto Animation.
Even though Jujutsu Kaisen's second season is still ongoing, the studio is gearing up for the launch of a new anime. This time, it’s an original series titled BUCCHIGIRI?!.
What makes this upcoming series interesting is that Hiroko Utsumi is at the helm. Utsumi has worked with the studio before on the Banana Fish anime.

BUCCHIGIRI?! Anime Confirms January 2024 Release Date
As the show’s release date is quite close, MAPPA shared a new trailer that showed off more footage that features the anime’s cast.
Fans can also get a glimpse at the series’ unique art style, as well as the eye-catching character design.
The series follows Araji Tomobishi, a student who reunites with his former friend, Mataka Asamine. In his new school, Araji is caught up in various battles between powerful individuals.
Voicing Araji is Genki Okawa, the VA of Lemon Yamabuki in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun. Also part of the cast is Anna Nagase (Riko Amanai in Jujutsu Kaisen) and Makoto Furukawa (Saitama in One-Punch Man).
MAPPA confirmed that the BUCCHIGIRI?! anime has a January 13, 2024 release date. The show is set to stream on Crunchyroll in the US and other select regions.
