The DC Extended Universe has always been a convoluted mess which is a shame because it started off promisingly with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. Obviously, Warner Bros. and DC Films have a different vision for the franchise and have reportedly been planning to hit the reset button on it for quite some time now. In fact, a new Superman film is currently in the works which will be produced by Star Wars director J.J. Abrams and it's NOT going to involve Henry Cavill.

Major details about the project are still being kept under wraps but we know that the film will be headlined by a Black Man of Steel. There have been rumors that the film will feature a reimagined Black Clark Kent but according to the latest news, fan-favorite character Val Zod will take on the Superman mantle in the film.

However, the reaction from the members of the DCEU fandom has been quite lukewarm and it's mainly due to the fact that they're not ready to see Cavill exit the franchise. Now, the star of Netflix's hit fantasy series The Witcher is finally breaking his silence on WB's new creative plans for DC's flagship superhero. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming project and said the character is "far more than skin color".

He also noted that there's always going to be room for more than one Superman in the DCEU and he'd be down to share it with another actor given the chance. "Why not have multiple Supermen going on? Joaquin Phoenix did a wonderful Joker movie; so what if it's not tied to the rest of [the franchise]? They have multiple Superman comic book storylines happening at the same time."

I'm a huge fan of how Cavill approaches the matter and instead of sour-graping over his uncertain DCEU future, here he is patiently waiting for the next chapter of the mighty Kryptonian. It's frustrating how WB dropped the ball on him on more than one occasion but I gotta say, I think there's still hope that we'll get to see Man of Steel 2.

Meanwhile, Henry Cavill is set to return as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 2.
