For decades, Magic: The Gathering's story has become a major part of the popular collectible card game. Various comic books, novels, and short stories have featured the Planeswalkers of Magic's multiverse but it's been eight years since a Magic novel was released, and now, Wizards of the Coast has announced that it will release not just one new Magic novel but two!

Both books are being written by Greg Weisman, whose credits include Star Wars Rebels and Gargoyles, and the first one is being released in April 2019 and the next one in Fall 2019.

Wizards of the Coast haven't released a lot of details about the novel's plot. So far, we know that the book is related to the upcoming card set, it will be released in 2019, and the story will feature Planeswalkers that fans love. Here's the summary:

Planeswalkers from many disparate realities will team up with the Gatewatch against Nicol Bolas and his unstoppable army who has claimed dominion over Ravnica. The book will feature well-known characters, like Chandra, Gideon and Jace, alongside all new characters.

Well, that's a bit spoilery but many fans are already expecting the ultimate showdown between Nicol Bolas and the Gatewatch so I wouldn't consider that major. This implies that the Ravnica sets will focus on Bolas. The third Ravnica-centric set that will be released after Ravnica Allegiance next year will most likely conclude their conflict against the Elder Dragon Planeswalker.

Pre-orders for the novel will begin on Labor Day.
