Today, Wizards of the Coast has announced the Open Beta for Magic: The Gathering Arena, the new digital collectible card game. They also released a hilarious new trailer with esports commentator Day9 and actor Danny Trejo to announce the open beta release. You can watch the video above.
The Open Beta will start on September 27, and accounts will be wiped at the start of the Open Beta but will not be wiped between the open beta and full release on October 1. During
During the Open Beta, the developers will be working on giving players ways to directly battle with your friends, making player ranking and progression more meaningful, cosmetic items (card backs, more avatars, etc.), more experimental event types, and a better solution to what happens when you get a fifth copy of a card.
As Redditor Overoverme points out, Kaladesh and Amonkhet will be removed from the client until they decide what to do with non-standard format sets. There will also be Magic Arena redemption codes players can get in booster packs (1/8 chance you can get the code). Booster code is for 3 boosters, code found in prerelease kits is for a free sealed, and code in Planeswalker deck is for the entire Planeswalker deck in the client. Sealed format is going to be available, along with Guilds when the open beta goes live. Those who played in the closed beta get 1 copy of each of the standard legal planeswalkers in the mythic edition (only in the client).
That's awesome that they're putting in redemption codes in actual Magic: The Gathering products to give more players more incentive to play Magic Arena. I can't wait to play this game when it comes out. I'll probably start streaming MTGA after its official release so stay tuned.
