Harley Quinn is easily one of the best DC Comics creations of the 1990s and just seven years after making her debut appearance in the legendary Batman: The Animated Series, it doesn't come as a surprise how Warner Bros. almost pulled the trigger and featured the beloved Batman villain in live-action. In case you weren't aware, Joker's trusty henchwoman was originally one of the main villains of the canned Batman Triumphant film, a project that would've served as Joel Schumacher's apology to the fans after Batman & Robin failed to meet expectations.

The film would've taken the caped crusader back to his dark roots with Scarecrow as the big bad. Harley's role in the film was also interesting because the late director wanted to change her origin from being Mistah J's right-hand woman to his actual daughter out to seek revenge for her father's death. At one point, pop star Madonna was considered for the role but unfortunately, the project never saw the light of day and it would take another six years for WB to reboot the franchise.

Madonna's potential casting in the film was never actually confirmed by the singer herself but on Halloween, the multi-awarded performer seemingly wanted to remind Bat-fans of what we could've gotten over two decades ago. On Instagram, the 63-year-old transformed into Margot Robbie's version of Harley Quinn and it's the closest thing we'll ever get to Madonna portraying the role. Check it out here:

It's a shame that we never got to see Batman Triumphant because it sounded like one hell of a project. Of course, I completely understand where WB is coming from but I think Schumacher was pretty determined to right the wrongs of Batman and Robin. In another universe, perhaps.

Speaking of the caped crusader, here's where you can watch Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy.
