It has been a while since Lovesick Ellie ended, but the series has been revived with a new project. Instead of a new manga or an anime, Japanese film studio Shochiku announced that a Lovesick Ellie live-action film is in the works.

The upcoming movie was revealed with a new visual and an official trailer. This comes as a bit of a surprise, especially considering adaptations like these usually get trailers only after some time.

What’s more surprising is that Lovesick Ellie is getting a new project. After all, it has been over three years now since the manga ended.

Fujimomo’s Rom-Com Manga Is Getting the Live-Action Treatment

Lovesick Ellie is a romantic-comedy manga by Fujimomo that was serialized in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine from July 2015 to May 2020.

The series has gotten praise from fans thanks to its loveable characters and fun story. It was even honored with a nomination for the 2018 Kodansha Manga Award.

This manga follows Eriko Ichimura, a high school girl who is overlooked at her school. Her classmates only remember her when they need help with schoolwork.

Unbeknownst to her classmates, Eriko has a Twitter account called “Lovesick Ellie” where she lets her lusty fantasies go wild. In this account, she often tweets about her fantasies involving her classmate, Akira Oomi.

One day, Eriko accidentally hears a conversation between Akira and their homeroom teacher. Despite seeming like a perfect guy, Akira’s true personality is far from flawless.

Akira also discovers Eriko’s secret Twitter account. Thus, he approaches Eriko, saying that he’ll help her realize her fantasies. But in exchange, she has to keep quiet about Akira’s true personality.

The live-action Lovesick Ellie film will be released in Japan on March 15, 2024. For now, there’s no word yet on release plans for the film outside of Japan.
