Love in Contract and Forecasting Love and Weather actress Park Min Young underwent questioning following her ex-boyfriend’s arrest.

Park Min Young was put under the spotlight when her ex-boyfriend, Kang Jong Hyun, was arrested on Feb. 1. He is the owner of the virtual currency exchange, Bithumb, and has been suspected of embezzlement and breach of trust.

The Seoul Southern District Court conducted a pre-arrest interrogation, and it determined that Kang Jong Hyun was at risk of fleeing and destroying evidence.

Weeks after the arrest, the authorities called in actress Park Min Young for questioning.

Actress Park Min Young Underwent Questioning as Witness

Multiple Korean news outlets, including Korea JoongAng Daily and The Korea Times, confirmed that prosecutors summoned the 38-year-old actress amid her ex-boyfriend’s embezzlement case.

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday that she was questioned as a witness on Monday. Prosecutors also imposed a travel ban on her.

Reports said that the office is also investigating whether she was directly involved in Kang Jong Hyun’s business practices or not.

Kang Jong Hyun is the older brother of Kang Ji Yeon, the head of Inbiogen. The company holds the biggest share in Vidente, which is also the largest shareholder of Bithumb. He is referred to as the de facto owner of the cryptocurrency exchange.

Park Min Young’s Agency Clarifies Recent Reports

Following the Korean media outlets’ reports, Park Min Young’s agency, Hook Entertainment, released a statement on Wednesday saying that the actress was indeed questioned over the case but did not receive a travel ban.

The full statement reads:

“We would like to offer some clarification on earlier reports publicized on February 14, which stated that Park Min Young was called in for police questioning, and that she has been banned from leaving South Korea. In fact, Park Min Young was called in for questioning on February 13 as a mere witness in the current investigation, but the police did not ban her from traveling outside of the country. We apologize for delivering unpleasant news during these difficult times, as well as for the agency's belated response."

Park Min Young is yet to address the case directly. As of press time, it is believed that Kang Jong Hyun used her name, among others, to obtain illegal investment bonds.
