Live-Action Superman: Red Son Might Be DC's Next Big Film After Joker

It looks like DC might be taking a completely different direction with its next films. A new report claims that the next big project following Joaquin Phoenix's Joker movie could be a live-action adaptation of Superman: Red Son.

DC and Warner Bros. have certainly been taking an interesting approach with its projects. For instance, the entire Joker lore appears to have been rebooted when the Clown Prince of Crime was recast in Todd Phillip's movie. But is the studio taking the same approach with Kal El? A source has reportedly told We Got This Covered that DC is interesting in developing a Superman: Red Son live-action movie.

It's certainly a curious choice but one that could make sense when considering DC's casting dilemma. There have been speculations that Henry Cavill will no longer return as Clark Kent in future DC Extended Universe flicks. By taking on Mark Millar's fan-favorite comics, the studio can easily find a new actor to take on the role.

In Red Son, Kal El ends up crashing in the 1950s Soviet Union instead of Kansas. It's a tale that takes place in the Elseworlds Universe so it could easily explain why a different actor should take on the role of the Man of Steel.

It's an interesting idea but also one that raises several questions. After all, there is currently an animated adaptation of Red Son in the works. Although we think it's a great way to introduce a new Superman storyline, it is still best to take this with a grain of salt.

DC's next film is Joker, which is scheduled for release on October 4.
