Like Most MCU Fans, Chris Hemsworth Thinks Thor: The Dark World is 'Meh'

Before Thor: Ragnarok came around, many felt that Marvel's Thor sub-franchise was the weakest of the MCU installments. The first Thor was mostly forgiven by fans since it was the early days of the MCU but many were hoping for better when watching Thor: The Dark World, even though it did a number of things better than the first film. Simply put, it was meh.

Chris Hemsworth, the star of all three Thor movies, actually agrees with every other MCU fan out there as he also recently described The Dark World as meh.

During an interview with GQ (which seems to be having errors at the moment, though we'll leave the link there), Hemsworth said the first film was good but that the second was meh. The veteran MCU actor felt that they had done all they could with the Shakespearean-like stories of Thor. Granted, the comics have been doing it for years but considering how The Dark World was received by Marvel fans, going the Ragnarok tone was for the best.

In fairness to Thor: The Dark World, it does plenty of things better than the first. The action is much better, especially during the climax, it has better worldbuilding and even explores the nine realms a bit, and the moments with Thor and Loki exchanging quips are genuinely funny. Sadly, the boring villain, basic MacGuffin plot, and the rushed reveal that Loki was actually not killed by Malekith makes this an average MCU installment and proof that the Marvel formula could get tiresome.

Thor: The Dark World is available now on Blu-Ray and digital services.
