The Summer 2023 anime season is just a bit over a month away, and now, more upcoming shows are announcing their premieres. One of these is the Liar Liar anime which recently announced its official release date.
Liar Liar’s release was announced via the anime’s official website. There, details about its release were revealed, including the networks where it will be broadcast in Japan.
Along with the release date, a special voice drama clip was also released to promote the show’s upcoming premiere, giving fans an idea of what to expect.
Liar Liar Anime: Not an April Fools’ Joke
The Liar Liar anime was originally announced way back on April 1, 2021. Given that it was announced on April Fools’ Day, some believed that the reveal was just a prank.
Soon though, it was revealed that the anime is officially in the works, but it took quite some time before more info was revealed.
Specifically, details about the show’s 2023 premiere along with the cast and staff were shared back in November last year.
The upcoming anime is being made by Geek Toys, the anime studio behind shows such as Hensuki, Date A Live IV, and Dead Mount Death Play.
While its premise doesn’t exactly explain what it’s about, Liar Liar is set in Academy Island, a school where students compete in various games to determine who gets the top rankings.
The anime follows Hiroto Shinohara who earns top marks in the Academy’s entrance exam.
Soon, he even beats the reigning champion from last year. Unbeknownst to most though, what Hiroto did was a lie.

Liar Liar Anime Announces Summer 2023 Release Date
Details, including teaser visuals and a trailer, were revealed over the last couple of months. But now, the show’s July 8 release was confirmed.
Along with the release announcement, a special drama clip was also revealed, which features the show’s main characters.
This is the fourth in the series of voice drama clips that were released to promote the upcoming anime.
Given the show’s premise, this series promises to satisfy fans of anime such as Classroom of the Elite and Kakegurui.
After all, all these shows feature similar school battle stories, though Liar Liar has more of a rom-com element.
Liar Liar will premiere in Japan on July 8 at 10:30 PM (9:30 AM EDT / 6:30 AM PDT).
Currently, there’s no word yet on where the show will be streamed outside Japan.
