Legion Coming To An End With Its Third Season

It looks like Legion is coming to an end.

CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions John Landgraf made the announcement at the Television Critics Association winter press tour earlier today (via Variety), saying that Legion would be coming to a close with its third season on the network.

While this might come as a surprise to fans Landgraf explains that series creator Noah Hawley had always imagined the mutant television series as a show that would last three seasons long. Hawley will make sure that the series comes to a natural conclusion once the third batch of episodes makes its way to FX.

For those who've yet to see Legion, the series was inspired by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz' Marvel Comic series where David Haller (Dan Stevens) starts out believing himself as a severe schizophrenic. However, Haller soon discovers that he might actually be the most powerful mutant on the planet. The series might not delve much into Haller's parentage, but comic book fans all know the character's father – Professor X.

In most comics Haller is otherwise known as legion, an antihero with severe mental illnesses like a form of dissociative identity disorder where his alternate personas each control one of his many superpowers. Some of these personalities include swaggering adventurers like Jack Wayne, testy and rebellious girls like Cyndi, and Jamail Karama, the terrorist.

With its stunning cinematography and complex approach at mental health, Legion has become a critically-acclaimed series, its first two seasons earning an average approval rate of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Legion season 3 is expected to premiere sometime in the middle of 2019.
