Golden-age Hollywood icon Donald Sutherland is set to add his star power to the highly anticipated Yellowstone prequel Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show's title has been modified and will now chronicle the stories of different legendary lawmen in its anthology format.

The first season will feature the real-life character of Bass Reeves, portrayed by David Oyelowo, while Sutherland's character, Judge Isaac Parker, will be a recurring presence.

Meet the Legendary Lawman

Bass Reeves was a legendary Black lawman who served as a federal peace officer in the post-Reconstruction era in the Indian Territory. He is credited with apprehending over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals in his time, all without ever sustaining a wound.

Reeves' feats of bravery and law enforcement have made him the inspiration for iconic characters like the Lone Ranger.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves Presents A Star-Studded Cast

Aside from Sutherland and Oyelowo, Lawmen boasts an impressive roster of talent, including Dennis Quaid, who will play the role of Sherrill Lynn, a Deputy U.S. Marshall.

Lauren E. Banks, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Demi Singleton, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O'Nan, Grantham Coleman, and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley have also been confirmed as recurring cast members. Shea Whigham and Garrett Hedlund will guest-star in the series.

Initially, Lawmen was supposed to be a sequel to the Yellowstone prequel, 1883. However, the show's creator, Taylor Sheridan, changed the format to an anthology series that will focus on different legendary lawmen each season.

The show's title also underwent a modification, changing from Bass Reeves to Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

The Legacy of Judge Isaac Parker

Sutherland's character, Judge Isaac Parker, is an imposing figure who presides over the Fort Smith Courthouse. Described as having a "complicated legacy," Parker will no doubt be a vital presence in the series. It will be exciting to see how Sutherland will bring this enigmatic character to life.

Filming is currently underway in Texas, and Paramount Network has yet to announce an official premiere date for the series. Lawmen: Bass Reeves is shaping up to be an unforgettable ride into the wild west, filled with danger, excitement, and an all-star cast of Hollywood veterans and rising stars.
