A Hollywood insider has revealed that Spider-Man 4 will begin filming in September or October but has yet to secure a director. This unusual state of affairs has given fans of Tom Holland's web-slinger cause for concern.

Showbiz reporter Jeff Sneider announced today on X that the fourth Spider-Man outing may begin filming in September and October this year. Sneider’s scoop also revealed that Tom Holland and Zendaya will reprise their roles as Peter Parker and MJ in the new film.

However, fans are concerned about the lack of a director reportedly attached. Instead, Sneider simply said that Sony Pictures and Marvel are considering Justin Lin - one of the many directors attached to Vin Diesel’s Fast and Furious franchise.

Fans immediately made their sentiments known on X, with user Bartonovopolis describing the film as “a product on a conveyer belt, with a director for hire.” Adding, that setting up a schedule without a director attached “speaks volumes” on the quality of the future film.

Somnus Collective also opined that, in this case, the script, pre-visualization, and concept art are all done, and the director only has to handle a few dialogue scenes with the actors—if they are even in the same room at all.

Tom Holland has expressed reservations about returning to the film franchise. He told Collider in November that he “feels very protective over Spider-Man,” adding that he wants to protect the character’s legacy.

The actor, who is set to lead an unnamed Fred Astaire biopic, stressed that he won’t be returning to the role for the sake of returning and instead wished for the next film to be “worth the while of the character.”

A similar scoop from Alex Perez last week also said Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will be more independent as a hero in his fourth film following the events of No Way Home. The insider said he’ll find himself letting the Peter Parker persona fade into the background and give way to Spider-Man similar to what happened with Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne in The Batman.
