It may have seemed like a joke at first, but the Kuso Miso Technique is real, and it now has an official release date. Instead of being released this season as previously targeted, the anime is now set to premiere on April Fools' Day.

This makes it seem like an elaborate joke, but this crowdfunded anime is real, and it is being made by the small anime studio Anime Tokyo.

Despite the source material being an NSFW manga, this upcoming anime promises to be a family-friendly take on it.

Younger or newer anime fans may not be familiar with Kuso Miso Technique, but this manga is an incredibly popular meme that was all the rage in the early 2000s.

Until now, the manga continues to be a meme in anime circles, especially the Yaranaika? catchphrase and the face of its main character.

The meme was spread in the 2000s, though the original manga one-shot was released way back in the 80s. It became infamous for its NSFW story and its gross comedy.

Despite its explicit nature, the upcoming anime adaptation promises to be family-friendly, based on its description on the official website.

Specifically, the anime is described as a “mid-length feature” that is made “to be enjoyed by all ages.” The description also reveals that the anime will feature some original content.

Along with this, the anime will also incorporate elements from other works by the original creator, Junichi Yamakawa. The description doesn’t mention which other works will be included, though.

The original one-shot manga's story follows Masaki Michishita, a prep school student who is heading towards a restroom in a public park. There, he sees a man named Takakazu Abe who is sitting on a bench.

Abe soon unzips his jumpsuit and asks Michishita, "Why don't we do it?" (or "Yaranaika?", which is the origin of the phrase). Michishita agrees, and their encounter begins, though this soon turns explicit and quite gross.

Given the nature of the story, it’s hard to believe that the anime will make the anime family-friendly. It’ll be interesting to see how that will work while still being a faithful adaptation.

It won’t be too long now before we find out though, as the Kuso Miso Technique anime will be released on April 1, 2024.

There’s no word yet on which platform this anime will be streamed in outside of Japan.

Given that the studio’s previous work titled Pierre Ito Collection was released on HIDIVE, this anime may be streamed there as well.
