Kooky New Look at Solar Opposites from Rick and Morty Co-Creator Justin Roiland

Rick and Morty Season 4 is set to return in May, but co-creator Justin Roiland is also going to debut his Hulu show called Solar Opposites. Just in, we have a new trailer for the series, and it looks just as insane as Rick and Morty.

Here's the official description:

Solar Opposites centers around a team of four aliens who escape their exploding home world only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Justin Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambroni) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living super computer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth.

Just by looking at it, you can already see a lot of similarities with Rick and Morty. The show is basically still a sci-fi family sitcom, but this time, it's focused on a family of aliens trying to blend in on Earth. In any case, it still has a lot of Rick and Morty-isms like a dysfunctional family as well as weird sci-fi concepts.

If it's going to be any different, I suspect that it won't have the same kind of meta element that's prevalent with the work of Dan Harmon. Harmon is also a fan of character deconstruction, so maybe it will be less intense when it comes to a show like Solar Opposites. With just five upcoming episodes of the next Rick and Morty, I'm all up for more of Roiland's signature humor.

Catch Solar Opposites when it premieres on Hulu on May 8.
