Many manga readers believed that an announcement like this was imminent, and now, Kodansha has finally revealed that it will launch the K Manga service this May.

K Manga is Kodansha’s upcoming online manga platform where users can read simulpub releases along with a selection of completed titles.

Essentially, it is Kodansha’s rival to services like Manga Plus or Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app.

As expected, it will feature simulpub releases of popular ongoing titles like Blue Lock, and it will have other finished series like Attack on Titan.

Looking back around 10 years ago, manga readers outside Japan did not have much choice but to rely on fan-translated chapters online as most publishers did not officially release their serialized titles.

Fans who wanted to support the manga titles had to buy volume releases. And while these volumes were available in many stores, fans won’t be up to date if they were only able to read via volumes.

Thankfully, publishers like Shueisha have released platforms in recent years that feature simulpub releases of ongoing titles.

Currently, Manga Plus is one of the most popular services as it lets fans freely read the latest three chapters of an ongoing manga.

Other publishers have also followed suit, with Square Enix releasing its Manga Up! platform last year.

Recently, Kodansha has begun pulling out its serials from other platforms, which is why many believed that the publisher would release its own service soon.

These theories turned out to be right on the money.
