Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were with the royal family during Queen Elizabeth's funeral. However, King Charles may have made poor choices that worsened the royals and the Sussexes' rift.
King Charles Caused A Lot Of Damage During Queen's Funeral, Royal Expert Claims
Royal expert Christopher Andersen, author of Brothers And Wives, weighed in on the royal family's relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after the Queen's funeral. According to him, the new king may have worsened the beef when he initially did not allow Prince Harry to wear his military uniform.
"I think that [reconciliation] might have been the intention, but the king's decision to initially not permit Harry to wear his uniform and during this funeral [and the] fact that at times, it seemed as if Harry and Meghan were being shoved in the background and even shunned, that did a lot of damage, I think," Anderson said on Wednesday's episode of Us Weekly's the Royally Us podcast. "So, I have to wait and see where they go with this."
King Charles eventually allowed Prince Harry to wear his military uniform during the vigil of Queen Elizabeth's grandchildren. However, Prince William's younger brother was reportedly hurt because the palace removed the Queen's "ER" initials on it.
Prince Harry's Memoir Could Widen The Rift With His Dad King Charles, Royals?
While Andersen felt that King Charles made poor choices, he also warned the Sussexes about the impact of Prince Harry's memoir on their relationship with the royal family.
He believed that depending on the memoir's content, the Sussexes might have a hard time reconciling with the royal family.
"There could only be bombshells in that book," Andersen explained. "There's no way to avoid the fact that it's going to rub the king the wrong way."
Andersen speculated that Prince Harry and Markle "want to tell the full and true story" of their experiences while in the palace and with the royal family. However, their version is "not necessarily a pretty one."
Shannon Felton Spence, a public affairs expert, moderator, public speaker and TV commentator, echoed the same sentiment. She believed that Prince Harry's memoir would contain "stunning bombshells."

"It's very nebulous as his mother affectionately called him 'the spare,' but it is also indicative of the battle he has been fighting his whole life, to find a path that is his own in a family and institution set up only for his older brother," she explained to Fox News Digital.
"We knew that this was a memoir, and given the Oprah interview [from March 2021], we expected that there would be some stunning bombshells," Felton Spence added. "The cover, the title – they certainly focus on Harry's internal struggle. That is something very meaningful to him and his advocacy work, but unfortunately, can be a danger for the royal family."
Prince Harry's memoir Spare will be out on Jan. 10, 2023.
