Uma Thurman has given an update on Kill Bill 3.

Kill Bill was directed by Quentin Tarantino and starred Thurman as Beatrix "The Bride" Kiddo, who was viciously beaten and shot on her wedding day. Kiddo was a member of an all-female assassination squad, and after a period in a coma, she awakens to seek vengeance on those who mistreated her.

Despite the fact that fans thought The Bride's tale had come to a rational end, Tarantino has continually hinted at the possibility of a third picture. Many fans are hoping that not only is the sequel on the road, but that it will arrive as soon as possible.

Will There Be a Kill Bill 3?

So far, only Tarantino has commented about a third film, but now Thurman has provided some insight. According to Variety, Thurman stated in a recent interview that Kill Bill 3 is "not immediately on the horizon," but she also revealed that the sequel has been discussed throughout the years, stating:

“I can’t really tell you anything about it. I mean it has been discussed over the years. There was real thought about it happening, but very long ago. I don’t see it as immediately on the horizon. I hate to disappoint people. Everybody wishes it would be the case, but I think it’s not immediately on the horizon.”

Kill Bill 3’s Possible Futures

If Kill Bill 3 isn't in the works right now, Tarantino fans will have three options to consider.

The first is that Tarantino will never create Kill Bill 3 and that the entire premise is just another of the famed filmmaker's fantasy projects that will never come to fruition. The second possibility is that Kill Bill 3 will be Tarantino's 10th and final film (the director has expressed interest in retiring), but that it will not be released for years – a.k.a. the horizon.

The third and last possibility is that Tarantino will not retire after his tenth picture, in which case he may make one or two more films before returning to Kill Bill 3.

People crave new Tarantino material, and part of the excitement of each new film is figuring out which direction he'll take. As a result, finishing his career with a sequel feels like a cop-out, a way to play it safe with a proven smash while without risking anything. And, of course, if Tarantino's career has shown anything, it's that he's never been afraid to take risks.
