Kevin Smith Claims The Batman Will be Based on The Long Halloween

It seems like all of the great comic book movies are based, or partly based on existing comic book arcs that fans have read and loved. If this rumor from Kevin Smith is true, it looks like The Batman is going to be one of them since it will reportedly be based on The Long Halloween. No official word has been given so we'll have to wait and see if Smith is right.

Smith revealed the details on his Fatman Beyond Podcast, even though he's lost a significant amount of weight since his heart attack. Naming conventions aside, Smith claimed that the rumor came from a good source so this should be an interesting rumor, especially if it's true. While we have seen elements of The Long Halloween in The Dark Knight, having more references would be neat.

The Long Halloween is often considered by many to be one of Batman's best stories, written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Tim Sale. It's a graphic novel that gets reprinted a lot and with good reason since few stories have impacted Batman media like this one. As someone who has read this story a good number of times since college, I'll probably read it a bunch before the film comes out.

Assuming that the rumors are true of course. Smith can be hit or miss when it comes to rumors and a lot of changes happen during production so we'll have to wait and see. Still, this should keep Batman fans happy.

The Batman is slated for release on June 25, 2021.
