Keri Russell Joins Cast of Star Wars Episode IX

Star Wars Episode IX is set to start shooting this month, and the first new member of the cast has been revealed.

According to Variety, The Americans star Keri Russell has joined the cast of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode IX. No details have been released about her character yet, but I bet a lot of fans have already been speculating that Russell has been cast as Rey's mother.

I mean, the resemblance is already there:

Though I would very much like to put a face to Rey's parents, I'm hoping that J.J. Abrams goes the Rian Johnson route and gives us something totally unexpected for the film. Sure there has been a ton of fan backlash from TLJ, but the film ultimately has way more fans than haters. Plus, I love the message that a hero can come from anywhere and doesn't need to be part of some legacy.

With The Last Jedi basically opening up a clean slate for J.J. Abrams, I hope that he is able to come up with a great story along with Chris Terrio. Sure, not everyone is going to love the final product, but that's already something you can expect from the toxic pit that is the Star Wars fanbase.

Catch Star Wars Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20, 2019.
