Comic book fans who watched the 2005 movie Constantine were probably confused by the portrayal of the titular character. After all, this John Constantine was played by Keanu Reeves, who was neither British nor blonde in the film. Nevertheless, that version of the supernatural detective is now officially part of DC canon, thanks to a new comic book.
In the new comic book The Sandman Universe Presents Hellblazer #1, John finds himself at the end of the world where he is given the opportunity to a universe where his life is still intact (via Screenrant). When he agrees to do so, he is told that he needs to become "the best version" of himself. Interestingly, this leads the Hellblazer to think about all of the different versions of him that we have encountered and one of those just happens to be a dark-haired (possibly American) Constantine.
The image of Reeves' version of a young Constantine is featured on the foreground (a slightly older one appears behind him) and instantly jumps out at you. It's a cool nod to the movie that can now be considered part of DC canon.
It's been several years since Reeves played the Hellblazer and Matt Ryan has already taken on the role on TV but there have been reports that the John Wick star might reprise the role again in more films. It was previously reported that Warner Bros. is planning to work on more Constantine movies featuring Reeves. However, this has not been confirmed so it's best to take it with a grain of salt.
