Kathleen Kennedy Extends Her Lucasfilm Contract for Three More Years

After the mixed reception of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a lot of angry fanboys have been looking for someone to blame, and if it isn't Rian Johnson, it's Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. A lot of people have been petitioning for her to resign online, but too bad for them, it looks like Kennedy is going to be staying with Star Wars for a while.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kennedy has extended her contract to work for Lucasfilm for three more years. Kennedy's position may have been under heavy scrutiny after the underperformance of Solo earlier this year, but Disney CEO Bob Iger had already admitted that it may have been his fault for forcing Lucasfilm to get the movie out in May despite the change in directors.

While some fans may hate how Kennedy is driving the whole Star Wars ship, I for one, love what she's been doing. It's not just the attempt at diversity either, I think her approval for Rian Johnson to take risks with the Star Wars formula, as well as the smaller scale stories like Solo, have been great moves on her part. Sure the franchise may have caught a bit of a snag, but it doesn't really feel like it's her fault.

For now, it's said that the future of Star Wars is aiming to be more on the television side of things. As of now, Jon Favreau is working on a live-action series which is said to be about Mandalorians. There's also the Star Wars Resistance animated show that's coming to Disney Channel this October. Personally, I prefer movies, but I'm still up for newer things as long as they're good.

Star Wars Episode IX is set to come out Dec. 20, 2019.
