Did Kate Middleton Shade Prince Harry In First Royal Engagement After Spare Release?

The Prince and Princess of Wales did not let the drama brought by Prince Harry in his book Spare stop them from carrying out their royal duties. Prince William and Middleton visited Merseyside in North West England and talked with the individuals behind the healthcare and mental health support services in the county. They also attended the opening of The Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Entertainment Tonight reported.

It was the royal couple's first public outing together after Prince Harry's memoir Spare was released Tuesday. During the outing, Middleton raised eyebrows when she commented that "Talking therapies don't work for some," Daily Mail reported.

The future king and queen consort met several teenagers at the Open Door Charity who use arts and dance to help their mental health.

"Has producing music and taking part in those workshops helped? Has it helped with your personal lives?'" Middleton asked, The Sun reported.

"Producing music and letting out what you're feeling is better than saying it in a clinical atmosphere. I can put it into words. That was tough to explain!" one boy replied.

The Duchess of Cambridge acknowledged the boy's response, noting that talking therapies don't work for all.

"There have often been negative connotations around it. But if we get across that there are these more positive spaces and experiences out there, then we are changing how we talk about it."

One Of Prince Harry's Therapies Reportedly Troubled Prince William

Prince Harry has made several attacks against the royal family in his Netflix docuseries, interviews and book Spare. Royal watcher Kylie Walters weighed in on the relationship between the royal siblings and said they have different takes on therapy.

She also noted how Prince Harry used to credit his big brother for encouraging him to seek help. However, he has been saying that it's his wife, Meghan Markle, who moved him to seek therapy.

"In 2017, Harry told the Mad World podcast that his brother had encouraged him to seek out therapy after years of sticking his head in the sand and refusing to think about their mum. Harry said William was a 'huge blessing' and kept telling him 'you need to talk about stuff.' By 2021, Harry had changed his tune and credited Meghan with helping him get into therapy," Walters told New Idea.

"Since meeting Meghan, Harry has tried various forms of alternative therapies such as EMDR [eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing] and using psychedelic drugs which are believed to have some therapeutic value in managing trauma."

Prince William and King Charles were reportedly on board with Prince Harry getting help because "both benefited from their own therapy in the past." However, one of Prince Harry's therapies reportedly troubled his big brother, who raised the concern to him.

"Somewhere along the lines, it does seem to have become a major source of contention for the family," she continued.

"We don't know which exact therapy William became concerned about, but Harry revealed in his memoir that his older brother became worried about what he was being exposed to and suggested he may have been being 'brainwashed by his therapist.'"

Prince Harry's book Spare was out Tuesday.
