Kate Middleton allegedly felt compelled to show unity when she made an appearance in the wake of Sarah Everard. However, an insider, who claimed to be her friend, said the duchess only acted because it was what she was feeling at the time.
Kate Middleton 'Only Acted' At Sarah Everard's Vigil
The Duchess of Cambridge visited Sarah Everard's vigil in March 2020. However, the duchess received intense backlash for showing up at the event.
First, gatherings were being discouraged at the time. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick, who initially implied that the gathering was illegal, caused outrage on social media after she seemingly defended Middleton, saying she was only there for her duties.
"She’s in the course of her duties. She was working," she told BBC Radio 4 program when grilled about Middleton's attendance at the wake.
During the interview, she seemed to avoid smearing the royal while also not backtracking her former comments condemning the rally where the protesters clashed with the police handling Everard's case.
One insider close to Middleton said that the allegations that she was there for duties were not true. The duchess went there because the incident was making her emotional.
"She just acted," Middleton's friend told Hello! Magazine. "She felt it was really important to be part of the moment because she felt really emotional about it herself."
It was not easy for Middleton to show up at the event, the tipster added. It was a rare public display of spontaneity for the future queen of consort's part who is a natural introvert and a very shy person.
Kate Middleton Sends Sarah's Family A Heartfelt Letter
Aside from her attendance at the vigil, Kate Middleton sent a letter to Sarah' surviving family members. She penned the letter to "express her absolute sadness at what Sarah's family and loved ones are going through," Daily Mail reported.
Sarah went missing just three miles where Middleton and her sister, Pippa, used to share a flat in Chelsea before she married the future king. The duchess wanted to offer her condolences and let Sarah's family to know that they were in her thoughts.
"This was a deeply personal and heartfelt letter, simply to express her absolute sadness at what Sarah's family and loved ones are going through," an unnamed source told The Mirror.
"The Duchess knows that no words can change what has happened but wanted to let them know that they and Sarah are in her thoughts. She remembers what it is like to walk alone as a young woman in London and elsewhere, and like so many other women, she has been thinking deeply about her experiences during those times."
It was reportedly important for Middleton to pay her respect. And she considered the incident a "private matter" and wanted to show unity with everyone feeling the same.
Sarah died due to compression of the neck. According to reports, the 33-year-old woman was kidnapped and murdered. Her body was found in a wooden region in Kent, 50 miles from where she was last seen alive.
