Kate Middleton and Prince William didn't interact with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when the latter was in the United Kingdom. The lack of interaction between the two royal couples was due to the lack of trust, according to a royal expert.
Kate Middleton And Prince William Reportedly Refused To Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Due To Trust Issues
Royal biographer Katie Nicholl spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The two royal couples reportedly did not interact during the Platinum Jubilee one year after the Sussexes' bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey for CBS last year.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle flew to the U.K. to celebrate the Queen's 70 years on the throne. They made their public debut by joining the National Service of Thanksgiving at the St. Paul's Cathedral, where the senior members of the royal family were also present. However, there was zero interaction between Prince Harry and Prince William.
The Sussexes returned to California without meeting the Cambridges in private. The Harry: Life, Loss, and Love author said Prince William and Kate Middleton refused to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle because of trust issues.
"I think that does signal not just a busy timetable on the part of the Cambridges but perhaps also a bit of a lack of trust," she told ET. "I do know that William and Kate are worried that anything they might say or do with the fact that it could end up being leaked to the media. So, I think in the case of really having to prove now that they can be trusted."
Prince Harry and Markle still have a few projects with Netflix and Spotify. They are also opening their doors to the world in their docuseries with the streaming giant. According to Nicholl, the couple based in California is aware that they have some issues to work on with the royal family.
"If there’s going to be any chance of moving on, repairing relationships and really trying to heal some pretty deep wounds, then I think Harry and Meghan are going to have to respect the wishes of the royals," Nicholl added. "I think Harry and Meghan are absolutely going to have to respect the wishes of [Queen Elizabeth II] and [Prince Charles] and that these meetings remain private."
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Extend An Olive Branch To Kate Middleton And Prince William
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attempted to extend an olive branch to Prince William and Kate Middleton by inviting them to their daughter Lilibet's first birthday at Frogmore Cottage. However, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were forced to decline because they were set to visit Cardiff Castle in Wales as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebration on the same day.
"Things are still fraught — William is still wary of spending any time alone with Harry as you never quite know what may be reported back afterward," a UK-based insider told Page Six.
Meanwhile, Angela Levin criticized the Sussexes for not checking the Cambridge's diary before extending an invitation. The royal biographer and commentator believed that if Prince Harry and Markle wanted to meet them, they should have extended an invitation when they were available.
Levin also believed that the Sussexes should have stayed longer in the U.K. and didn't leave without fixing their relationship with the senior members of the royal family.
"They should have stayed for a few days afterwards, spent time with the Queen after her duties had finished, tried to make things right with William," Levin told MailOnline. "They would have had the time - but they chose to rush in and rush out."
The "Harry: A Biography of a Prince" author added that Prince Harry appeared to have "lost all respect for anybody now. All his impatience and self-destruction [are] visible. He can't hide it.'"
