Kate Middleton and Prince William's romance wasn't as romantic as the fairytale stories when it began. It wasn't love at first sight for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. According to a royal biographer, Middleton's first meeting with the future king was very embarrassing.
Kate Middleton Recalled First Meeting With Prince William
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were long-time friends before they started dating. They took their time before they decided to take their relationship to the next level. Prince William proposed to Middleton over five years after they started dating.
During their engagement interview, Middleton shared how she felt when she saw the royal prince at St. Andrews University for the first time.
"Well, I actually think I went bright red when I met you and sort of scuttled off, feeling very shy about meeting you," Middleton told Prince William during their 2010 BBC interview with Tom Bradby.
"Actually, William wasn’t there for quite a bit of the time initially, he wasn’t there for Freshers Week, so it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other but we did become very close friends from quite early on."
Royal biographer Christopher Andersen shared what happened during the royal couple's first encounter at the university. In his 2010 book William and Kate: A Royal Love Story, Andersen claimed that Middleton curtsied to Prince William. However, it didn't turn out well as he spilled his drink all over himself prompting Middleton to run away. As Showbiz CheatSheet puts it, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's "very first meeting was extremely embarrassing."
However, according to Katie Nicholl in her book Kate: The Future Queen they already met when he was 9 years old at the Ludgrove Prep School and when he traveled to St Andrew’s Prep for a hockey match. The royal reportedly caught the eye of the young Middleton, Express reported.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are still very much together. They often attend royal engagements together but rarely pack on the PDA just like Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. However, whenever they do, their sweet gestures send their fans into a frenzy.

An unnamed source told Us Weekly that Prince William surprised his wife with a hug box of 50 roses on Valentine's Day. He also accompanied it with a sweet handwritten card praising Middleton for being a wonderful partner and mother to their kids.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will watch the England vs. Wales Six Nations match on Saturday. However, fans will see what a royal rivalry will be as they will be supporting the opposing teams. Middleton will be there as the Patron of the Rugby Football Union while Prince William is the Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union.
